Shakespeare and Music

I ran this course jointly with Rudy Sabor.  Taking a different play each week with students giving an outline of the plot, examining the contemporary music and music inspired by it by later composers for tone poems, operas, songs and other works.  I covered Anthony and Cleopatra, Coriolanus, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, King Lear, The Merry Wives of Windsor, As You Like It, Comedy of Errors, Cymbeline, Henry V, Henry VI Part I, Henry VIII, Macbeth, Merchant of Venice and Midsummer Night’s Dream.

We ran this course at Crayford Manor (Bexley College) October 1999-June 2000.

Below is a spreadsheet I created showing some of the works we used.
